Hot Shots Matchplay is an opportunity for players to get their first taste of competition tennis. Currently, it is being held on a Thursday and Sunday at Altona Tennis Club, giving players and parents multiple options.
Benefits of playing Hot Shots Matchplay include:
- Players get to experience playing matches in a friendly and welcoming environment. Winning isn’t the focus, instead emphasis is placed on having fun and becoming familiar with the rules of tennis
- Players get to play with and against their peers. They get to co-operate and compete with players from their own lessons, as well as make new friends with players from other lesson times.
- Players get to apply their learning to a game scenario. Hot Shots Matchplay is a fantastic place for the kids to showcase their improvement to their parents and friends
- Players become comfortable in applying the rules of tennis. Vida coaches are on court to help guide the kids through the process, but matches are predominantly player driven
How does Hot Shots Matchplay work?
Players participate in three matches that last 20 minutes on each day they attend. Both singles and doubles rubbers are played, with players being split into teams of around 3-4 players each day. There is an orange ball section and a green ball section, and there is also a Red Ball Tournament being held at the club on Sunday 23rd June – registration link coming very soon!
What next after Hot Shots Matchplay?
Players are encouraged to participate in Hot Shots Matchplay whilst completing the My Vida Journey program. Once this is complete, players are at the stage where they can begin to participate in local association competitions (such as the Western Region Tennis Association competition)
